To me it’s something that Apple could be providing for almost zero cost with zero downside to people who don’t want to use it and they’ve just refused to do so for almost no reason.

Odd feature omissions in Apple-land get debated endlessly just because there are so many random things that Apple arbitrarily decides you can’t do, and the marketing excuse we get is that they’re being intentional or holistic.
